Truckee, Calif. -- The Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District (TDRPD) is thrilled to announce that Pete Kristian has been named as the new Recreation Superintendent.
In his new role, Kristian will be responsible for managing and overseeing all recreational activities and programs offered by the District. His appointment follows the promotion of Sven Leff, the former Recreation Superintendent turned General Manager. Kristian previously served as Recreation Supervisor for TDRPD.
“I really enjoy working with this whole crew of people and just excited to lead it,” said Kristian. “It’s going to be exciting to have more growth and learning opportunities.”
Kristian has been a part of TDRPD since 2001, where he started as a part time, seasonal maintenance worker. That beginning has set off his career path from running adult athletics to overseeing the aquatics departments. Over those years with the District, Kristian has seen the impact TDRPD has on the community, and views it as immensely important.
“I feel like we are the entity that tries to stay open,” said Kristian. “School is not always in session, Covid happens, it snows, things are closed, but we do our best to stay open and serve the community with whatever they need.”
Not only has he seen the impacts on the community, but his family has also grown up deeply involved in TDRPD programs, whether through Kristian coaching his son’s TDRPD basketball team, or his children attending enrichment programs.
“TDRPD has helped raise my kids and give them different outlets,” said Kristian. “We want to be that outlet for families.”
Kristian’s favorite part of his time with TDRPD has been the people. Several individuals that were here when he first started 22 years ago are still a part of TDRPD today, which is a very unique and special experience. Beyond his role at the District, Kristian also currently serves on the boards of directors at Truckee Little League and the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.
Overall, Kristian is ready and excited to get to work and have a hand in all the programs TDRPD has to offer.
