Whether you want to introduce your infant to the water, advance your child's swimming skills, or are an adult who wants to learn how to swim, Truckee Community Pool offers various swimming classes for all ages and skill levels.

Infant Toddler Swim

Parent & Tot (Ages 4 months - 3 years):

We introduce basic water and safety skills and water acclimation with games, songs, & lots of toys. 

Parent & Tadpole (Ages 2 - 3 years):    

Water acclimation continues in this class, where the parent and teacher encourage basic safety and swim skills through repetition and games. Child must have passed Parent & Tot or LOVE the water.

Guppies (Ages 3-4 years):            

This is a starting point for children with no prior experience in swim lessons. Children learn to relax & enjoy the water while acquiring swim and safety techniques.

Children Swim

Level 1

SwimLessonIcons-01Narwhal (ages 3-5 years)

This class is for children who have passed Guppy level & feel comfortable putting their face in the water. 5-year-olds uncomfortable in the water may also take this level class. Intro to basic water safety and swim skills.

LEVEL 2

SwimLessonIcons-02Jellyfish (AGES 3-4 YEARS)

Must pass Narwhal to start. This class is for children who are 3-4 years who feel comfortable putting their face in the water. Continued intro to water safety and swimming skills. 

SwimLessonIcons-04Seahorses (AGES 5+ YEARS)

Primary Skills. This class is for children who are 5 years and up who feel comfortable putting their face in the water. Intro to water safety and swimming skills, including flutter kicks and back floating.

Conquer your fear of swimming! Work in your comfort zone & at your own pace to learn how to swim. Lessons taught in the shallow, warm water pool.

LEVEL 3

SwimLessonIcons-03Crab

Stroke Readiness. This class is for children who can comfortably swim 5 yards on their front & 5 yards on their back.  Children will continue to learn basic water safety & swim skills; front & back stroke, with introduction to treading water & deep water swimming.

LEVEL 4

SwimLessonIcons-05Turtle

Students should be able to tread water for 10 seconds before taking this class. This class is for children who can comfortably swim 10 yards on their front and 10 yards on their back. Children will continue to develop front & back stroke, deep water swimming, with introduction to side breathing & breaststroke.

LEVEL 5

SwimLessonIcons-09Dolphin

Lessons will take place in the lap pool. Must be able to swim 20 yards freestyle, backstroke and elementary backstroke as well as tread water for 30 seconds before taking this class. Continues water safety and swim stroke skills. Must pass lap pool swim test to move up to Level 6 Seals.

LEVEL 6

Must have passed TDRPD swim test to take this class. Students should be prepared to spend entire class in lap pool. Must be able to swim 25-yard freestyle, backstroke, sidestroke and tread water for 60 seconds.

LEVEL 7

SwimLessonIcons-10Sea Otter

Must have passed TDRPD swim test to take this class. Must be able to tread water for 60 seconds, swim 30 yards freestyle, 25 yards breaststroke and backstroke. Develops swim fitness, water safety & refines swim skills. 

LEVEL 8

SwimLessonIcons-06Sailfish

Experienced swimmers work on increased strength and endurance. Must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle, back and breaststroke.

Practice: 6:15 am-7:30 am Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

(Current USMS membership required to participate.)
