At Ponderosa Golf Course, our goal is becoming more clear as we focus on how to grow the game of golf. With events like the PeeWee and Parent Golf Tournament, we hope to encourage families and the youth to come out to play the great game of golf. First timers, beginners, and all ages. We want you to come out and give the sport a try.
The event started out like many other official golf tournaments do, with handshakes, introductions and rules. The kids received a goodie bag of golf course essentials filled with tees, a golf ball, bag tag, divot tool, and ball marker. It was the perfect event gift to make sure the kids had everything needed in order to play on the course, but the candy quickly became the most popular and talked about item.
After a quick group photo, the game faces were on, and it was time to start swinging. On all the holes, the special event tee placements made it 150yds to the green. The kids all stepped up and in their own unique way they reached for the sky and came down with hard swings. Some intentional and some not intentional practice swings were had. Some big divots, some low liners, and some big hits. The most consistent part of the tournament was the constant smiling and fun that was being had on a beautiful day at the course. The most competitive part of the tournament may have been the race to the next tee box between holes.
The tournament proved a fact of golf that will probably always stay true. Putting is the hardest part of the game. While they had the aim dialed, speed was an issue all day. But after around 4-8 putts, every player tapped in their ball, and was greeted with a rousing ovation from the crowd. There were lots of cheers and golf claps on this day.
The tournament ended up being exactly what we hoped for. All for fun, an introduction to the game and a great start for these future golfers. It was our pleasure at Ponderosa Golf Course to put this event on and we hope to grow this tournament as we continue to grow the game of golf in Truckee. Thanks to the parents for coming out to support and most importantly for being the best caddies.
